See the ANNOUNCEMENT for details including changes in this release. Using gdb debugger on macOS is no longer straightforward since Xcode stopped using it and replaced it with lldb.Starting from Mavericks (macOS 10.9), there are several steps to follow to make it work.

Version 9.2 of GDB, the GNU Debugger, is now available for download.

You need to create a certificate for gdb to be allowed access. From the toolbar, go to Keychain Access > Certificate Assistant > Create a Certificate. From the Keychains list on the left, right-click on the System item and select Unlock Keychain 'System'. The problem is that you are not logged in as a root user (which you don't want). Here are the steps: Launch Keychain Access application: Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.

In Snow Leopard and later Mac OS versions, it isn't enough to codesign the gdb executable.

For Mac OS X, we recommend using the Homebrew package manager (though the packages may also be available through Fink or MacPorts).

SEGGER J-Link GDB Server V5.10n Command Line Version. If you work on a Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks or later, you will run into the problem of Eclipse refusing to interactively debug problems that otherwise build and run fine: An attempt to start a debugging session by selecting Run Debug from the menu will result in Eclipse complaining that an Error with command: gdb -version has occurred. install and use QEMU + GDB on a Mac OS X system (or even a Windows system), the usage steps should be similar, but nding the exact packages for installation may be difcult.

Edit: The solution for Sierra 10.12.1 still requires user action to avoiding spawning a shell from GDB. We will edit this post as we discover more things about macOS Sierra. The benefit of putting it in.gdbinit is that it will work with IDEs that launch GDB for you on the program (like GPS, GNATbench or Emacs).
